4.2 out of 5 stars 1,366 ratings

When Savannah Jordan agrees to help her aunt while she recovers from a broken foot, she doesn’t expect to walk into a mystery, become part of a not-quite-legal surveillance team, be kidnapped by a deranged stranger and meet a steaming hot veterinarian. Beloved neighborhood cats are missing—the community can only guess at their fate—and Aunt Margaret’s life is being threatened. Is it because she has a clue to the missing cats or is it something more sinister?

If you like light mysteries with only a little terror, if you’re infatuated by interesting cats and if you love a love story, you must read this book.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Patricia Fry began writing articles for magazines in 1973 and that's how she earned her living for decades. Her first book was accepted by a New York publisher in 1978. Every five years, or so, she'd evaluate the potential for her writing business and make adjustments accordingly. In 1983, she established a publishing company (Matilija Press) and began producing her own books. By the late 1990s, she was teaching publishing workshops. She wrote her first of many books for authors in 2000 and she also became a speaker at writers' conferences in many cities throughout the US. Around the same time, she hung out her shingle and started working with other authors on their book projects.

Nearly forty years after she began writing for publication, with forty nonfiction books to her credit and after working with many dozens of clients on their fiction and nonfiction books, she felt she was at a crossroads. Patricia reminisces about that period in her life. "All my friends were retiring. I wondered if I should, too. But how does one retire from something they love? Writing is not just a job, it's my passion."

The year was 2012. Patricia knew it was time for another career shift and she asked herself, "What writing dreams have not been fulfilled?" The answer came in one word: FICTION. That year, she gave herself a birthday gift--the time and space to write a novel.

She says, "The idea came rather quickly. And within a relatively short time, I was the author of a published novel, "Catnapped", the first in the Klepto Cat Mystery series." Every two or three months since, Patricia has produced a new book in the series. While you're urged to read these books in order, many readers agree that each book can be read as a standalone. As of July of 2021 there are 52 Klepto Cat Mysteries.

"I write these cozy mysteries with love and hope that you enjoy my stories." (Patricia Fry)

The Klepto Cat Mysteries

The Klepto Cat Mysteries are light, fun cozy mysteries full of adventure, intrigue, and a little romance. They feature Rags, an ordinary cat who just can't keep his paws off other people's things. Often, the treasures he finds are clues in a mystery. Follow Rags's fascinating life path from when he and Savannah were single and he roamed the neighborhood stealing everything from toys belonging to large dogs to jewelry and bathing suits.

Rags and Savannah don't stay single long. After meeting Michael, a handsome veterinarian, Savannah settles down, but the cat doesn't change his thieving ways. Even though his kleptomaniac habit is annoying and embarrassing to his family, he has earned the respect of the local sheriff's department and he was even asked to star in a documentary.

The Calico Cat Mysteries

In 2020 Patricia adopted an orphaned kitten--a calico named Olivia. She is such a quirky, fun and creative cat that she decided to give Olivia a cameo appearance in one of the Klepto Cat Mysteries (Book 51, Calico Calamities). She was such a hit, and she has attracted so many fans who adore the photos Patricia shares of Olivia on Facebook (PatriciaFry.165, KleptoCatMysteries, and CalicoCatMysteries) that she decided to give Olivia a series of her own. As of July of 2021, there are two delightful and suspense-filled books in the Calico Cat Mystery series. "Oh! Olivia," and "Where's Olivia?" are both vailable in print and Kindle at Amazon.com and at the Calico Cat Website.

Cat lovers will enjoy this twisty cozy novel about cats going missing from their homes, leaving owners in despair over what might have happened to them! Some horses are missing too. Savannah Jordan, recent graduate of Veterinarian school, arrives to help her Aunt Margaret who is dealing with a foot injury as well as trying to investigate the pet thefts. Great characters, rescue group politics, a bit of romance, wonderful kitties who pop up amongst the pages; especially Rags, Savannah's precocious cat who is obsessed with taking and hiding objects from family, friends, neighbors, strangers!! I don't want to say more! ENJOY!!

Savannah Jordan leaves Los Angeles, and her job as a vet technician, behind when her Aunt Margaret needs help after breaking her foot. Savannah takes her beautiful gray and white cat, Ragsdale, with her. Of course Rags starts trouble right away, especially with his problem – he’s a klepto cat. He steals anything and everything, including Aunt Margaret’s underwear.

She never expects to be thrown into the middle of a mystery but when beloved neighborhood cats are stolen right from their homes, Savannah and Margaret are right in the middle of the investigation. Not only are the cats in danger, but Margaret receives threats against her, too.

With the help of the entire town, they set out to save these cats and return them to their rightful owners.

Savannah also finds herself smitten with the local vet, Michael. As the two of them get closer and closer, they realize that their relationship will be difficult once Savannah goes back to LA. Neither one wants a long distance romance.

This is a sweet mystery and romance all rolled up into one story. Of course any story with lots of cats gets my attention and there were many in this one. The cover alone had me and I’m not usually one to fall for a cover alone.

It’s the first book in the “A Klepto Cat Mystery” series and it’s off to a great start. A cat that steals? Too cute. The story is well-written and fast-paced. The characters are well developed and realistic. There are some realistic situations, but they aren’t graphic and they aren’t dwelled on too much. It’s all done very tastefully.

I’m looking forward to reading book #2, Cat-Eye Witness. I can’t wait to catch up with these characters again.

Every once in a while I decide to purchase a book just because I want to--I truthfully don't remember if I read a review on another blog or not. As most of you know I love animals-all animals-and am owned by a cat at the moment. If I am not mistaken I think this type book is what is called a "cozy". It was delightful and I read it in about 2 hours from start to finish!

It has all the requisite parts, girl is in a bad relationship and goes to help her eccentric Aunt who broke her foot. The Aunt is involved in lots of things but mostly having to do with cats. Cats are disappearing from their owners homes-------mystery has to be solved! Girl meets boy--can't decide-leaves eventually -does she return? And of course the klepto cat!!

This really was a cute book and I will be getting a couple more in this series if only to find out what happens between the boy and the girl and of course what other objects klepto cat manages to steal that eventually saves the day!

First, let me say I got my money's worth with this book. The author has a good plot, very like able characters, and a good variety of both people and cats. Klepto is inspired. Having said that, I have some complaints too. The author needs a good editor who will point out certain weaknesses such as a need to work on dialogue, timing, and please use spell check and a good grammar reference. Pay attention to your tenses, and verb/subject agreement. Most mysteries build to their climax and then finish up the loose ends or add an epilogue. Don't reach your climax at 80-83 per cent. Usually you finish the big stuff at about 90-94 per cent of the book. Also remember that this medium--books, are not like television where your main characters face terrifying experiences and lapse into wisecracks and nonchalance.

This is a fun cozy mystery novel. The characters are well-drawn and multi-dimensional, something I always take note of because I've read too many novels wherein the characters are wooden and perform like puppets with never a glitch in their personalities. This book has glitchy characters that you like immediately, even when they're a little over the top. The story is well-thought-out and well-told, with just enough clues to make the ending satisfying. The cats are integral to the story and do what cats do, with panache and verve. As a cat-lover I was especially happy with their antics. Obviously the author is well-acquainted with her feline friends. This is the first in a series and I'll be looking for other books by this author in the near future. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a fun, uncomplicated summer read.

If you love cats this first book in the series will be tough on you to read but hang in there. The first book gives you the ground work for the rest of the series which is much better than the first. Like a lot of the comments say they didn't finished the book, well originally I was one of those people but when I started the second book I realized that I had question that could only be answered from reading the first book. I'm up to book 32 and looking forward to the rest of them. The one nice thing about this cozy mystery is not every book has a murder.

Terrific gentle read. Not filled with fast paced action but filled with real feeling and a great little plot. Looking after her aunt as she recovers from an accident has our heroine involved in catnapping. Who and why? Our heroine likes everything mapped out for her and suddenly she finds herself having to step out of her comfort zone. Not only in her sleuthing but also in her love life. Not really mysterious but if you love family sagas with a bit of mystery than this is definitely for you.
