Well, this depends on the cat, the moment, and the observer. Those who don’t know cats very well, might look at a cat and say, “That’s just a cat—an ordinary cat being catlike.” But you—someone who adores cats and who find them fascinating and fun—you’ll see the personality in the cat, his sense of curiosity, her playfulness, that impish squint of his, and her desire to be loved. Sometimes it seems your cat is revealing a pathway to her very soul through her eyes. At other times you can’t begin to decipher what’s on her mind.
In many ways, cats are complex, yet oh, so easy to read. They are a puzzle, sometimes simple to solve. Cats are contradiction at the highest levels and they are consistent. Yeah, those who look at a cat and see a form with eyes and no substance, are not seeing what you see when you look at a cat. Your cat is a blessing on paws. You’re aware of her emotions and subtle (and not so subtle) way of communication. You know cats. You know that your cat is no ordinary cat. None of them are.
I cringe whenever I hear the phrase “oh its just a cat.” To me they are all individuals just like people. They may not be just like people but they have individual personalities, likes, dislikes, traits, etc. That’s what I love about cats. I love dogs but they are more predictable. A cat is so much fun or they’re very lovable and do things that no other cat in my life has ever done.
For example, I’d almost forgotten this but…. I once had a beautiful golden tabby who would lick my eyelids to wake me up. I’d never had a cat before or since she crossed the rainbow bridge that was smart enough to do something so gentle but yet effective.
I’m 77 and cannot rescue ferals anymore. I cannot live with a bunch of cats… like 9 at a time… but now I live with one cat and one dog. They are the limit allowed here at the senior facility where I live. I could have 2 cats but then I wouldn’t be able to have a dog. Dogs let you know when someone is out in the hallway or about to knock on your door.
My dog and cat not only get along with each other but they play tag. I watched them with such amusement last night as they made they’re tagging noises and chased each other. First one in the lead and somehow it changed to the other in the lead. I’ll stop there as this is a cat blog.
