I met with the Yes I Can <\/em>writers’ group last night where I presented the 2nd class in my 8-week Book Proposal Workshop. What a group! Each of the four members is a serious author and they’re each highly motivated to write their first publishable book. They say that they are learning a tremendous amount from me. I have them working in my Author’s Workbook <\/em>and they are discovering things about themselves as authors, storytellers, businesswomen and people. But I am learning from them, as well.<\/p>\n

Last night Marsha asked if I could outline some questions that must be answered when writing a synopsis. What a good approach, I thought. And I told her I would attempt to put together the questions that one should answer while writing the book proposal synopsis. Here’s what I came up with:<\/p>\n

1: What is your book about?
\n\u2022\tDescribe your core story or the premise\/purpose of your book.
\n\u2022\tWhat genre and\/or topic category does this book fall into?
\n\u2022\tWhat are the focus, scope and point of your book?
\n\u2022\tWhy did you write (or are you writing) this book?<\/p>\n

2: Who is your target audience?
\n\u2022\tHow many people (what percentage of the population) comprise your audience?
\n\u2022\tWhat other segments of people would be interested in this book?
\n\u2022\tWhat will this book bring to your audience?
\n\u2022\tWhat are the benefits to your audience?<\/p>\n

3: Why did you decide to write this book?
\n\u2022\tWhy do you think people will be interested in this book?
\n\u2022\tWhat makes your book different than anything else out there?
\n\u2022\tWhat makes your book useful and\/or entertaining?
\n\u2022\tWhat makes this book as desirable\/valuable as similar books?
\n\u2022\tWhat makes your book better than what’s out there?
\n\u2022\tWhy are you the person to write this book?<\/p>\n

4: Why will people want to read this book?
\n\u2022\tWhat is your platform\u2014your way of attracting readers?
\n\u2022\tWhat are some of your promotional ideas?
\n\u2022\tRealistically, how will you implement these ideas?
\n\u2022\tHow many books do you think you can sell?<\/p>\n

5: Why should your book be produced?
\n\u2022\tCan you establish a need or desire for this book in the marketplace?<\/p>\n
