Have you ever noticed how different we are as writers? Some of us write for pleasure. Some write for therapy. Others write for a living. There are fiction writers, poets, authors of children\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s stories, memoirists and \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcjust give me the facts ma\u00e2\u20ac\u2122am\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 types writers. We write for our ego, our health, our state of mind and for money. Sometimes we write out of both sides of our brain and we get so confused that we consider quitting altogether.<\/p>\n
What kind of writer are you? Why do you write? Have you figured it out? Are you a happy writer\u00e2\u20ac\u201ddoes writing bring you pleasure? Or do you sometimes feel disillusioned and disappointed in the way your writing is going? <\/p>\n
If your writing dreams aren\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t being realized, maybe it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s because you are getting in the way of the outcome you desire. Are you putting the wrong kind of energy and thought into your dream? Are you trying so hard to force the issue that you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re missing the best solution?<\/p>\n
I know excellent writers who say they want to be published, but who refuse to do what\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s necessary. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve met promising writers who claim they want to write for publication, but who just won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t put in the time to perfect their craft. <\/p>\n
So what does it take to be successfully published?<\/p>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tAn understanding and some mastery of the language\u00e2\u20ac\u201dsentence structure, punctuation, grammar, etc.
\n\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tThe ability to discipline oneself to write regularly.
\n\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tA willingness to follow publishing protocol\u00e2\u20ac\u201dseek out appropriate venues, study and adhere to submission guidelines, honor deadlines and so forth.
\n\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\tPatience and persistence.<\/p>\n
If you write purely for the love of writing, continue on this path and enjoy. Publishing, however\u00e2\u20ac\u201dparticularly, if you dream of establishing a career through your writing\u00e2\u20ac\u201drequires an entirely different mindset. <\/p>\n
