This is a good time to get your own pet spayed or neutered, and gather up those outside cats that hang around your place (you can borrow humane traps from your local shelters) and take![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/catbird-300x225.jpg\")
them to be spayed or neutered. Many communities have free spay\/neuter clinics. Check those in your area and take this important step to protect your pets and future litters.<\/p>\n
In honor of World Spay Day and Spay\/Neuter Awareness Month, many veterinarians and humane organizations offer free or discounted spay days. If you\u2019re ![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/catblackstreet-300x225.jpg\")
already a supporter of spaying and neutering our pets, take it upon yourself to educate others. Talk to people you know who are unfamiliar with the concept of spaying or neutering pets for healthier and longer life for their pet.<\/p>\n

euthanized every year\u2014dare I say, every day. Help nonbelievers to see the bigger picture than can be found in their excuses\u2014such as, \u201cKittens are so cute.\u201d \u201cHaving a litter of kittens teaches my children about reproduction,\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t want my precious cat\/dog to go ![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/KittenMary-225x300.jpg\")
through that surgery,\u201d \u201cWhat are three or four more puppies going to hurt?\u201d<\/p>\n
The statistics are daunting. Here\u2019s what I found: There are 5 million cats and kittens in shelters in America alone, waiting to be adopted, and over 70 million cats and kittens living in the wild\u2014in colonies and on their own\u2014abandoned, forgotten, unloved.\u00a0 Millions of them are euthanized each year.<\/p>\n
If that isn\u2019t incentive enough, I don\u2019t know what is.<\/p>\n
