Tomorrow is National Tabby Cat Day. Well, some tabby groupies celebrate on April 30, so I\u2019m not actually sure when the official day is. But I have an idea. Why not celebrate the tabby, black cat, pointed cat, calico, tuxedo and all the other cats in the world and in your home every day of the year?<\/p>\n
Have you ever had a tabby? If you had an Abyssinian,![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/kittenpurrsy-300x225.png\")
Maine coon cat, American shorthair, Persian or any number of other purebred cats, you could have had a tabby. Tabby is not a breed, it is a color ![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Mollieclose-225x300.jpg\")
pattern, but some breeds include tabbies.<\/p>\n
Tabbies also come in a variety of colors and shades\u2014orange, grey, black, brown. And then there are dilute shades of tabby, bold, and those somewhere in the ![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/CatMollieCouch-300x225.jpg\")
middle.<\/p>\n
But not all tabbies are the same. It\u2019s thought that the domestic tabby derives from the African wild cat, which has mackerel tabby markings. Then there are the classic, spotted, patched, and ticked (as in the Abyssinian).<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve had a few tabbies over the years, most recently Lily\u2014one of the sweetest kitties I\u2019ve ever loved. Yes, I have a heart for tabbies\u2014and Persians, and calicos, and the Himalayan\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
