I\u2019m not conducting a scientific study here, I\u2019m just curious about what makes cats choose certain sleeping options. But then, like you, I\u2019m curious about a lot of things cat. In the past, our cats would sleep in the little cat beds we provided, but only in winter and only when those beds were in front of the heater or fireplace. Most of our cats have chosen to sleep on the bed with me at night. During the day is another story\u2014and cats do ![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Smokey2021-225x300.jpeg\")
sleep a lot during the day.<\/p>\n
In our house, they\u2019ll generally dibs a certain chair or sofa. That becomes their spot and that\u2019s where you\u2019ll find the cat anytime you want a little kitty love, it\u2019s ![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Smokeysprawling-225x300.jpeg\")
feeding time, or whatever. Sophie, for example, likes one end of the love seat and she has a thing for an old arm chair we have in the living room. I\u2019ve put cushy blankets for her in both spots and when I need her, ![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Lilycatface-e1584701802959-225x300.jpg\")
that\u2019s where I\u2019ll find her.<\/p>\n
Olivia is a different story. (She is a different story in a lot of ways.) The truth is I never know where I\u2019m going to find Olivia. On her favorite chair\u2014a small recliner, in a cat-tree cubby, on a kitchen chair under the table, ![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Oliviasnuggle-e1603797952294-225x300.jpg\")
behind a chair next to the piano, on my office chair\u2026yes, she\u2019s all over the place. It would seem to me that this practice could come from her wild heritage. In the wilds a cat wouldn\u2019t sleep in the same place for long.<\/p>\n
Olivia\u2019s favorite place is inside a closet. I finally put a blanket in there for her and it took her a while to accept it. She may look beautiful, but she has some less than aristocratic habits.<\/p>\n
I just ordered our cats a cozy bed\u2014the cats in the commercial just dive into it so happily. I can imagine our cats doing the same, but will they? It may be yet another cat apparatus I\u2019ve wasted money on.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
