Some of them carry names that imply exotic beginnings. The Bombay, for example. You don\u2019t hear much about the Bombay. I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever met one and I certainly don\u2019t know much about them, but I would have thought they came from India. Actually this is a homegrown cat breed originating in <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4687\" src=\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Mollieclose-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Mollieclose-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Mollieclose-375x500.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Mollieclose-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Mollieclose-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Mollieclose-rotated.jpg 1512w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>Kentucky. A breeder there wanted to develop a miniature panther and in the 1950s he created one by breeding the sable Burmese to an American Shorthair. Also developed in the US are the Ragdoll (1960s), the Munchkin (1980s), the Himalayan (1940s), the Balinese and others.<\/p>\n<p>Why are there so many different breeds of cats? I mean we have the curly cats, long-hairs, fur-less, tweaky-eared, tailless, sleek, short legged, pointed, bushy tailed, and more. And each of them have their fans.
