I love watching them play in our gardens, nap in a sunny (or shady) spot in our yard, greet us on our deck for a relaxing visit, help me pick peas or tomatoes in our summer garden.<\/p>\n<p>We also feed birds, but rarely do we have <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3858\" src=\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Molliedeck1-e1575031718192-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Molliedeck1-e1575031718192-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Molliedeck1-e1575031718192-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Molliedeck1-e1575031718192-375x500.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Molliedeck1-e1575031718192.jpg 1512w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>cats in the area of the feeders. The last time I recall seeing a cat with a bird was maybe ten years ago before the neighbors with the cat from hell moved. Thank heavens they took Rocket with them. I\u2019m not of a mind <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_6593-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_6593-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_6593-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_6593-500x333.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>to dislike any cat, but Rocket was evil\u2014he even broke into a house through a window and attacked a frail seventeen-year-old Abyssinian while she slept. He was perhaps the only truly mean-spirited cat I\u2019ve ever met. I tried making friends with Rocket. But quickly learned that after <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3580\" src=\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_6478-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_6478-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_6478-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_6478-500x333.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>allowing you to get close and maybe petting him once or twice, he\u2019d turn on you <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2905\" src=\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/GeorgeBench1-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/GeorgeBench1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/GeorgeBench1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/GeorgeBench1-500x500.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/GeorgeBench1.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>ferociously. He definitely was a cat to stay away from.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll never forget when a large orange cat used to visit us at the backdoor. He came so regularly that we started offering him kibbles. We hadn\u2019t lived here long enough to know where he belonged. But one day he showed up wearing a post-it note on his forehead that said, \u201cI belong to Tyler. Don\u2019t feed me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We looked around and saw a young man waving at us from across the street. Nice way to meet the neighbors.
