There\u2019s nothing as charming as the antics of a kitten. They can go from skittering around the room like popcorn to falling asleep while eating from their bowl. So cute. Even as they grow into remarkable cats they still make us smile with their expressive eyes and intriguing curiosity. I enjoy photographing cats in unusual positions.<\/p>\n
Recently I shared a site showing cats asleep in some of the most interesting places and the most adorable poses. But have you ever watched a cat stretch or coil into what I consider Gumby poses\u2014positions that look uncomfortable and impossible?<\/p>\n

Experts say that a cat\u2019s cat-like physical maneuvers are due to the way he\u2019s designed\u2014I mean, what other animal can twist so that his body goes in two different directions at once? A healthy cat can rotate its body 180 degrees. Compare that to a human\u2014yup, we can only rotate 90 degrees on a good day. Their shoulder blades are connected to muscle, which gives the cat incredible flexibility to twist, turn, and reach out for prey and to grab the road in a sprint. The cat\u2019s spine is also built for flexibility and helps give him the Houdini-Jell-o power he seems to have when you\u2019re attempting to trim his nails or put him into a carrier.<\/p>\n
So the next time you see your cat in what appears to be a painfully uncomfortable position, just remember it\u2019s okay\u2014he\u2019s just using (or showing off) his flex-abilities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
