We love the little furballs and accept them for who they are. But occasionally someone might ask, \u201cIs she part Siamese?\u201d or say, \u201cHe looks like he could have Persian in his ancestry.\u201d Where did the M on her forehead come from? Do those ear tufts mean she\u2019s part Maine coon? What about the ticking in her fur\u2014is that an Abyssinian feature? The fact that he loves water might mean he\u2019s related to a Turkish van cat. And what about that constant meowing\u2014what breeds tend to be vocal?<\/p>\n<p>At some point, surely you\u2019re curious about your kitty\u2019s heritage. Well guess what? You can have your cat\u2019s DNA tested and learn volumes about him. All of the cat breeds we <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2794\" src=\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/calicoIMG_1981-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/calicoIMG_1981-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/calicoIMG_1981-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.matilijapress.com\/catscapades\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/calicoIMG_1981.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>recognize now developed from these four\u2014coming from the Arabian Sea, the Eastern Mediterranean, South Asia, and Western Europe. The DNA test can 90% accurately determine from which of the four your cat\u2019s heritage originates. And in many cases, it will define what percentage of, say, Persian, Birman, Egyptian Mau, Australia Mist, Siamese, etc., your cat is.<\/p>\n<p>There are also DNA tests for genetic health indicators\u2014is he prone to certain diseases?
