It\u2019s December first. If you have an advent calendar, you get to open a window or choose a gift from a pocket. We used to give our mother an advent basket of wrapped lotions, soaps, kitchen trinkets, costume jewelry, holiday ornaments, treats and toys for her cat, and so forth to open each day of December. And, of course, my children and grandchildren had advent calendars filled with gifts so they could count down the days until the biggest gift-giving day of the year.<\/p>\n
Be sure to consider your cat during this crazy time of year. I\u2019ll be more specific in upcoming posts. But we all need to be aware of the dangers to our pets this time of year. What dangers? They range from the things we bake and eat, to the wrapping and decorating materials we use, and the greater opportunity for them to escape while guests are going in and out and leaving doors open. If you have a kitten, leave a note on the toilet seat reminding guests to lower the lid. Kittens can drown in a toilet. Do not hang kitten toys from a wire coat hanger. A cat can get caught and strangle. I don\u2019t think there\u2019s a cat owner anywhere who uses the old style tinsel anymore. Even the new plastic tinsel and garland can cause trouble for some kitties.<\/p>\n
