As I believe I said in my post, your platform is your way of attracting readers for your book--it&#039;s your following. It&#039;s also your connections. As an example, let&#039;s say that you are an accountant. You own your own accounting firm and you travel around speaking to groups about family budgeting. You produce and circulate a newsletter on budgeting. You have a built-in &quot;platform&quot; for a book on some aspect of accounting or budgeting.

I have been writing and publishing for over 35 years. I have several books on these topics. I frequently speak on these topics. I present classes, give consultations, etc. I am also the executive director of SPAWN (Small Publishers, Artists and Writers Network). I am fairly widely known among publishing circles. These things are all part of my platform--my credentials--for promoting my books on these subjects.

My publishing/book promotion platform landed me a contract with a New York publisher recently.
